Guardian Home Information and Requirements
Here at BrewerDoodles, we want all our dogs to be a part of a family and not spend their life in a kennel, so that means we can only keep so many dogs at our home. Guardian homes allow us to expand our program, while ensuring that all our dogs are given the time and attention they deserve.
In order to qualify to be a guardian home, you must live within 2 hrs of Mt. Pleasant, TN for a female dog, and within 1hr for a male, and be flexible to be able to bring the dog to us for breeding and whelping, or take them to a vet for testing that may need done.
The perks of being a guardian are that you get an amazing puppy FREE OF CHARGE!!! You then have that puppy for their lifetime! BrewerDoodles retains breeding rights for a contracted number of litters/years. Generally for females, that starts at maturity at their 2nd heat cycle, around 14-16 months old, and would be 4-5 litters max, but there are times and reasons we may retire a mama early, as their health and best interest is always our first priority. A female only cycles twice a year and may be bred back to back, or could skip a litter for various reasons, but would retire by the age of 5. A male can usually be bred longer, and we hope to use our studs for 6-7 years, but again, there are reasons a male could also retire at an earlier age.
While the dog is in our program, BrewerDoodles pays for all expenses related to breeding such as health testing, any Ultrasounds or x-rays related to breeding, etc. The guardian is responsible for normal care related to owning a dog such as food, vaccines, deworming, and grooming. Guardian dog must be kept up to date on vaccines and parasite prevention following BrewerDoodles’ guidelines, using only approved food, deworming, and flea and tick medicine approved by breeder.
BrewerDoodles decides when each dog will be bred and to whom. Females stay with their guardians during pregnancy and are to be brought to breeder 5-6 days before due date, where they will stay until puppies are weaned (between 7-8 weeks). Guardians are welcome to come visit mama and puppies anytime after the puppies are 3 weeks old. For males, we try to give 24-48 hrs notice before male is needed for services, and usually is only needed to stay with breeder for 3-5 days. Once contract is fulfilled, breeder pays to have the dog spayed/neutered and the dog is fully signed over to Guardians with no further obligations. Our guardians also receive a discount off any of BrewerDoodles’ puppies they may wish to add to their family!
All guardians must have a secure fenced in yard, and ensure that males are never outside that yard unsupervised to prevent breeding with unapproved females. Females must be kept on a leash at all times while outside of the fenced yard for the full time she is in heat (about 3 weeks).
Guardians must communicate well with breeder and send photos when asked (more are always welcome!), and always inform breeder of any serious health concerns, or for females at the first sign of a heat cycle.
Guardian must provide basic training of dog such as, but not limited to: house and crate training, leash training, basic commands such as sit, down and come. Guardian must primarily have the dog living indoors, especially during inclement weather, We do approve of moderate, age appropriate exercise and sunshine!
Guardian must socialize the dog, and enjoy having the dog go places that are safe and friendly! Dog parks are NEVER allowed while under contract!
Guardians must not have plans of moving more than 2 hrs away while under contract, and should any circumstance change that would keep Guardian from being able to give the dog a loving, stable home with proper care, guardian must return dog to breeder.
Guardians must not own any other unfixed dogs.
